How To Get Lots Of Money For Anything Fast

Given American society’s growing acceptance of homosexuality, it comes as a surprise that there are still so few gay and lesbian couples portrayed on popular television. Sure, there are overtly queer-themed programs like The L Word and Queer as Folk, but it seems as though normal, run-of-the-mill gay relationships should also have their place among straight couples in network sitcoms and dramas. Now, it seems that ABC is paving the way. They’d already done so with Brothers & Sisters and Grey’s Anatomy, but a new show—a comedy for once—introduces viewers to an endearing, very normal couple: Modern Family’s Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker.

Terrifically Typical

It could be argued that Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), a prim and proper, musical theater-loving lawyer who’s wound a bit too tight, and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet), a flamboyant, flowered shirt-wearing grown-up class clown, are merely stereotypes of what could be called “typical homosexual males.” But there’s more to it than that. Behind their overt personality traits are common marital problems, from whether they’re raising their daughter right to what Mitchell’s next career move should be. They argue, they compromise and they behave just as any well-functioning straight couple does.
